Dual versus Single Thermostat
Some swimming pool heaters give the option of having a single or dual thermostat. This allows you to heat two bodies of water. So if you have a spa you can use one thermostat to heat your swimming pool and the other to heat your spa
Electronic versus Millivolt Ignition
Heaters sometimes have the option of having an electronic or a millivolt ignition. The difference between the two is the pilot light used to heat the swimming pool. The millivolt ignition uses a constant pilot light. The good thing about millivolt ignition is that no electrical work is needed. The bad thing is if there is a high wind situation the pilot light will blow out and needs to be relit manually.
The more modern way or electronic ignition needs electrical hook up. The ignition turns on and off the pilot light only when it is needed. It is a more efficient way of heating your pool and is worth the extra money.
Natural Gas versus Propane
The type of gas used in your heater is very important and needs to be determined before purchasing your swimming pool heater. The type of gas used should be determined depending on which area of the country you are located. Consult your gas company to find out which is most efficient for you.
Solar Covers
It is highly recommended that you get a solar cover if you get an swimming pool heater. Your swimming pool will heat up that much faster and will also save you money in the long run.
BTU Size
The BTU size of the heater is a very important factor for heating your swimming pool. The BTU size of the Heater is matched with the surface of your area (Length x width) Use the chart below to help estimate the size of your heater. However, if you use a higher BTU size (200,000 -400,000 BTU) you will heat up your pool much faster.

The HP130 pool and spa heater is designed to give you maximum heating at the lowest possible cost. The heater features electronic spark ignition so there are no pilot flames to blow out. The heat exchanger's all copper design maximizes heating and makes the HP130 very fuel efficient. Stainless steel waterways insure that this heater will not rust or corrode from pool chemicals. The connections to the heater come complete with polymer unions to easily hook up to existing plumbing. HP130 has a compact footprint to fit into almost any equipment area. Advanced controls allow you to set a desired temperature and the heater will automatically heat to that setting.
The HP130 puts out 130,000 BTU per hour to quickly heat your above-ground or small in-ground.
